FAQs

  • Yes, you can plant as many trees as you like. Please email us at carbonoffsetcornwall@gmail.com and we will make that happen.

    • The bare root native tree (we plant native species sourced from UK nurseries chosen to best suit each individual site while maximising biodiversity).

    • An FSC hardwood stake.

    • A protective tree guard to prevent young bark and shoots from being damaged.

    • Regular maintenance and site checks to help the trees survive until maturity.

    • The time and effort of our team to carefully plant each tree by hand and minimise soil disruption.

  • Simply put, no. Your contribution makes it possible for the tree to be planted on private land where it will be cared for and protected until maturity. Your contribution will give you the satisfaction of knowing that you are actively making a difference in the fight against climate change, creating woodland habitats and restoring Cornwall’s woodlands.

  • No, there is no public access to any of our planting sites. Our current planting projects are carried out on private land kindly supplied by landowners who share our passion for restoring Cornwall’s woodlands. The landowners we work with are committed to caring for the trees and allow us indefinite full access to the sites to check on their health and progress.

  • We plant the right trees in the right place.
Poorly managed and unplanned planting can do more harm than good. We take great care to ensure our planting projects will have a positive impact on the land and surrounding habitat. Qualified professionals and detailed land surveys help us achieve nature positive planting.

We work with landowners who care.
We only work with landowners in Cornwall who care about the environment and play an active role in ensuring our planting projects are protected for future generations.

We make every effort to help each tree reach maturity.
Unlike other tree-planting projects, we regularly check our planting sites to ensure the trees are growing well, have not been tampered with and are free from disease.

We minimise our impact on the environment.
We source our trees from UK nurseries reducing unnecessary carbon emissions. Planting is done by hand and is overseen by a qualified arborist to ensure minimal impact on the soil and surroundings.

    We practice what we preach.
We are personally making efforts to minimise our own individual carbon footprints and contribute personal funds to each planting project to offset our own unavoidable emissions.

  • We plant a selection of native species sourced from UK nurseries. The types of trees and quantities vary between sites. Each site is different and is therefore planted with a range of trees to suit the local environment, boost biodiversity and create woodland habitats for wildlife.

  • Our figures are based on estimates only. There are a host of factors that affect how much carbon a tree will absorb in one year such as species, age, level of intervention, tree health, and many more. Most experts agree that on average a tree will absorb 10-40kg of carbon per year. Hence we have based our conservative figures on each tree we plant absorbing 25kg of carbon each year. Essentially the trees we plant will absorb carbon as they grow, how much exactly is not possible to say, but each tree will make a difference.

  • A small percentage of the trees we plant will unfortunately not reach maturity. This is simply nature taking it’s course, weaker specimens will not survive. To minimise this we ensure each tree is carefully planted in the right place and at the right time to give it the best chance of survival. Where possible we will plant a ‘buffer’ of extra trees to account for those lost to disease or wildlife damage.

  • The landowners we work with are very much involved in our planting projects. They facilitate each project by allowing us to plant trees on otherwise unproductive land. They share our passion for restoring Conrwall’s woodlands and want to do what they can to help future generations. The landowners are contractually bound to ensure they put measures in place to prevent unlawful damage or any kind of interference to occur to the planting sites. The planting sites are specifically allocated for the sole purpose of creating woodlands. The landowners maintain ownership of the land and agree not to fell or thin the growing woodlands within 30 years.
